What this tool does

This tool turns your date of birth into a profile based on the astrology of the medieval Islamic world. It converts your birthday to the Hijri calendar, gives your star sign by its Arabic name with its element and temperament, names the planet that rules the day you were born on, and works out which of the 28 lunar mansions, the manazil, the Moon was passing through. If you add your name and your mother's name in Arabic or Urdu script, it also adds up their abjad values and gives the name based sitara.

The dates, signs and Moon position are calculated, not guessed. It describes a tradition, it is not a prediction of your future.

When to use it

Use it if you are curious how astronomers and astrologers in Baghdad, Cairo and Persia would have described your birth, if you want to know your Hijri birthday, or if you have heard about finding your sitara from your name and want to see how it is worked out. It suits anyone interested in Islamic history, Arabic star names or the old link between astrology and medicine.

You can also type a question, such as when you will marry or whether you will get your own house. The tool will not predict an answer, because most Muslim scholars regard predicting the future from the stars as not permitted. Instead it explains what the tradition connected with that part of life, how it relates to your own profile, and some practical next steps.

How it works

You choose your date of birth and, if you know it, your time of birth, and can add a question. The tool converts the date with the Umm al-Qura calendar and calculates where the Sun and Moon were that day. The Moon moves through about one mansion a day, so without a birth time you may see two mansions. For the abjad section, each Arabic letter has a number, the numbers are added up, and the total is divided by 12. Nothing you enter is saved, and you do not need to give your email to use it.

Hijri dates can differ by a day depending on local moon sighting, so check with your local mosque if an exact date matters to you.
